Therapeutic Essential Oils During Hypnosis
From Induction to Awakening therapeutic essential oils are a delightful, and powerful, way to enhance any hypnosis session. Please note care should be taken to obtain only therapeutic grade, pure essential oils. I have included links to therapeutic essential oils here on this page. Women who are pregnant or nursing, and persons with a diagnosed medical condition may want to consult with their doctor and may even want to reach out to a qualified clinical herbalist.
During the intake, one may have choose an oil to use during their session based on their goals.
Delivery of the oil will depend on personal preference and style, and on the nature of the oil itself. We may choose to diffuse the oil throughout the room to create a psycho-olfactory ambiance. One of my favorite preference is to place a single drop of the oil on the palm of the client's dominant hand. Using the index and middle finger of their other hand, they are instructed to "activate" the oil by rubbing it three times in a clockwise fashion. Then, holding their cupped hands up to their nose, they are instructed to take a few deep breaths. Many essential oils have components that bring oxygen into the cells, enhancing the natural relaxation created from breathing deeply.
Aromatic messages are then received in 15 seconds. It goes through the nasal cavity, traveling to the Olfactory Bulb, and then activating the Limbic System of the brain. With a whiff of a particular sent a message can be sent to our muscles to relax, lift our mood, facilitate focus, subdue a habit, or stop a craving.
The learning that occurs or suggestion implemented in the presence of a certain smell can be encoded into your personal subconscious database. Then through smell you can utilize suggestions moving them from your subconscious to conscious when reinforcement is needed.
Aromas in and of themselves function as a hypnotic suggestion.
Weight Healing: Orange, spearmint, apple, banana.
Smoking Cessation & Addiction: Cinnamon, Clove, Nutmeg, Grapefruit, Lavender, Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Roman Chamomile, Clary Sage, Ledum, Tarragon. Blends: Harmony, Peace & Calming.(Suggest the client take a "drag" of lavender if the thought of smoking or cigarettes should arise)
Concentration and Memory: Rosemary, Lemon, Sage.
Self-esteem: A blend of Sandalwood, Vetiver, Bergamot and Ylang Ylang.
Pain Management: Essential oils of Lavender and Roman Chamomile contain analgesic and anti-inflammatory compounds. Peppermint, frankincense.
Alertness /energy: Lemon, peppermint. All the benefits of coffee, without the caffeine!
Sleep Concerns: Jasmine, Lavender, Roman Chamomile.
Stress Management: Vanilla, Lavender, sandalwood.
Feeling Anxious: Vetiver, known in India as "the oil of tranquility". Cedarwood, Geranium, Melissa.
Romantic Issues: lavender, pumpkin pie, black licorice, orange.
